Description

The Pre- Study Course consists of two components:
1) German language – language acquisition with exam DaF Test
2) Foundation Programme including final exam

Course A

For participants with little or no prior knowledge of the German language

1st stage

Linguistic training:

  •  Intensive German classes- Level A1 – B1
  •  500 Taught units/TU*
  •  Tutorials
  •  Exam: Goethe-Certificate German B1
  •  Extracurricular and cultural activities
* TU – 1 Taught Unit = 45 min

January – July  

2nd stage

Linguistic training:

  •  Intensive German classes in September/85 TU
  •  Extensive German classes October-April/200 TU
  •  Learning Target: Level B2 up to C1
  •  Extracurricular and cultural activities

Foundation Programme comprising the following main areas:

  •  as modules / October – April / 300 TU
  •  Studying at the Hochschule Bremen
  •  Research skills
  •  Germany – a sociological analysis
  •  Intercultural competence
  •  English language skills for universtiy studies
  •  History, Geography and Politics
  •  Economics (E)*
  •  Mathematics(E/T)*
  •  Chemistry, Physics (T)*
  •  Tutorials/ Exam preparation

 Exam: Final exam of the Foundation programme

3rd stage

Linguistic training:

  •  Intensive preparation for the DaF Test/ 85 TU

In June
Exam: DaF Test or Goethe Certificate B2

  • Completion: successful taking of the DaF Test or the Goethe-Certificate B2

May – June

During the second stage the Foundation Programme is offered with two different main focuses:

• Course type E - Economics*
for participants who have chosen a degree in the department of Economics.

  Module: - Economics
    - Mathematics

• Course type T - Technology*
for participants who have chosen a degree in the department of Engineering.

  Module: - Mathematics
    - Chemistry/Physics

 

Duration and structure of programme:

The Pre-Study Course A takes 3 semesters (one and a half years).
It is a Full-time programme with mandatory attendance. Usually, the lessons take place from 8.30 am to 1pm, Mondays to Fridays. The afternoons are to be used for tutorials, project work, additional courses, self-directed study and the preparation and the follow-up work linked to the lessons.

 

Course B

For participants with prior knowledge of the German language – at least Level B1 (CEFR)

1st stage

Linguistic training:

  •  Intensive German classes in September/85 TU
  •  Extensive German classes October-April/200 TU
  •  Learning Target: Level B2 up to C1
  •  Extracurricular and cultural activities

Foundation Programme comprising the following main areas:

Tests/exams

Tests and exams indicate the progress that the participant is making and inform of his current performance.
At the end of each course and/or semester a test or exam is held, passing this test or exam is a requirement for admission to the next level.
In order to be admitted to semester 2 and 3 (Course A), or to semester 2 respectively (Course B), of the Pre-Study Course at least a pass in all subjects of the preceding semester is required.

Student status

At the beginning of the Pre-Study- Course at the Hochschule Bremen you will be matriculated as a student of the Pre-Study- Course. You will receive the semester ticket entitling you to various student concessions.

Depending on the chosen degree course, additional requirements may have to be met (e.g. internships/additional foreign language skills). Therefore, please make an inquiry concerning your preferred degree course at the Hochschule Bremen early on – if possible two years prior to entry.

A wide range of modern, future- and practice-oriented Bachelor degree courses in the fields of Economics and Engineering prepares the students thoroughly for the challenges of a future professional career. Generally, the duration of the degree courses is four years. As part of most degree courses a mandatory stay abroad for one or two semesters is required.
